Metrc, CCRS, and the states in between

Short answer
How does Bloom report to state track and trace systems?
Bloom is not yet a validated integrator in any state. The machinery is built and exercised against recorded fixtures: a connector interface with an adapter per vendor, an outbox that carries an idempotency key so a retry cannot file the same sale twice, and a daily job that compares what Bloom holds against what the state holds and raises a variance rather than agreeing with itself.
Vendor churn is a fact, not an exception
Illinois and New York moved from BioTrack to Metrc. New Mexico moved off BioTrack to a system of its own. Washington went from BioTrack to Leaf Data to CCRS. So the vendor is recorded per jurisdiction with the dates it applied and the state of the migration, rather than as a single value that is wrong the month it changes.
The outbox is the part that matters
A report is written into an outbox in the same transaction as the sale, so a sale that committed always has a report waiting and a sale that failed never does. A separate worker drains it with backoff, and a report that cannot be delivered becomes a visible exception rather than a silence.
Questions people ask next
- Is Bloom a validated Metrc integrator?
- Not yet, in any state. The connector is built against Metrc's published API and exercised against recorded fixtures, and no sale has been posted to a live regulator system. Validation is a program with paperwork, training and a capability assessment, not a switch.
- What about states that do not use Metrc?
- Washington runs its own CCRS file upload rather than an API, and Bloom generates those files in the order the state requires. New Mexico moved to its own system. Others use BT Government. The connector is an interface with an adapter per vendor, so a state changing vendor is a data change rather than a release.
- What stops a sale being reported twice?
- Every queued report carries an idempotency key derived from the receipt and its version. A retry after a timeout cannot file the same sale again, which is the failure that creates a variance nobody can explain.
- What happens if the state system is down mid sale?
- Whether a sale may complete with the report queued is itself a rule that differs by state, along with the deadline for filing it. Where a state does not allow it, the register blocks with the citation rather than deciding on the shop's behalf.
- Where are the credentials kept?
- Not in the database. The licence row stores only the name of a secret, and the value is leased at the moment of the call. A demo tenant cannot hold one at all: the database refuses any licence under a demo organisation a vendor or a credential.
